NIAS, PERFECTION & CONCISTENCY.

BRIEF HISTORY

The Point at Lagundri bay is undoubtedly a world-class wave for surfing with many other world class waves in the vicinity, namely the famous left-hander on Asu Island and the notorious right-hander at Bawa Island. These excludes numerous of other waves in the further south (Batu-Batu Islands, also known as Telos).

With our long involvement since the early 90s and Nias surfing history, Boraspati plays the biggest role as a travel company, easing surf trips to Nias to stay at the local homestays (losmen). We offer a range of losmen variety, from the ones having the main break as a front yard, to the ones at the end of the bay, a nice quiet hideaway.

NIAS USED TO CARRY A REPUTATION AS AN OFF-THE-BEATEN-TRACK DESTINATION, AND WAS ONLY FOR DEDICATED & ADVENTUROUS TRAVELLERS.

FOR OVER 20 YEARS, BORASPATI HAS BEEN MAKING TRIPS TO NIAS MUCH EASIER, NOT TO MENTION THE IMPROVEMENTS ON INFRASTRUCTURES BY THE TSUNAMI RELIEF PROGRAM IN 2005 ONWARDS.

GETTING HERE

The main gateway to Nias Island is Medan, a modern bustling capital of North Sumatra, also Indonesia’s third biggest city. The new Kualanamu International Airport of Medan (KNO) connects directly with Kuala Kumpur (KUL), Singapore (SIN), Bangkok (DMK), Penang (PEN) and Jakarta (CGK) as well as Padang (PDG).

Medan to Gunungsitoli (capital of Nias) are linked daily by 6-7 flights by Garuda Indonesia and Wings Air (Lion Group). The best way to get to Nias is flying, but it is also an option to go by boat from Sibolga (a town the western coast of North Sumatra), especially for those travelling with longboards or SUP as planes are unable to take boards more than 195 cm. The boat leaves at 7PM from both Sibolga – Gunungsitoli on Monday to Saturday.
